St John hairslide with rosewood pin (ph35)

Pewter knotwork design hairslide with rosewood pin.
This hairslide has been made by being cast into a rubber mould and then carefully hand-worked and polished. The rosewood pin on the back holds the hair tightly to prevent the hairslide from slipping out. Hairslides with a wooden pin require a thicker mass of hair to be effective but once pushed in remain very secure.
The Celts used knotwork to decorate many of their artifacts. To them, the intricate patterns woven into spirals and knots symbolise the continuity of life.
Width: 22mm Length: 86mm Length of pin: 117mm
Supplied in a velvet draw-string pouch.
